Series introduction

Follow the author’s argument

The WhatGodDoeth Study Series is built for readers who want the architecture of an important Christian book without losing the author’s actual argument.

Each guide compresses the source into a shorter path through its main claims, distinctions, examples, and turning points. The goal is clarity, not replacement. The original book remains the authority for what the author said.

That matters especially in The Case for Christ. Strobel builds a case from interviews, and each one rests on what the last established. This guide keeps the chain of evidence intact rather than collecting the conclusions on their own.

Use the guide to see how the pieces connect, then return to Strobel whenever an interview, term, or conclusion needs the full context of the source.

Four-section roadmap

The Case for Christ in one movement

  1. Part One

    Examining the Record

Are the Gospel records historically reliable? Eyewitness connection, credibility testing, textual transmission, outside corroboration, archaeology, and rebuttal evidence.

    4 study units

    Open Part One
  2. Part Two

    Analyzing Jesus

If the record is usable, what identity emerges from it? Jesus’ self-understanding, psychological coherence, divine profile, and the messianic pattern Strobel presents.

    3 study units

    Open Part Two
  3. Part Three

    Researching the Resurrection

What happened after the crucifixion? Medical evidence for death, the missing body, appearance claims, circumstantial evidence, and Strobel’s final best-explanation judgment.

    4 study units

    Open Part Three

Strobel’s investigation moves through three dependent questions. The guide preserves that order because each Part supplies something the next Part needs.

How to read this guide

Four marks, four kinds of help

A small marker at the start of a paragraph tells you what kind of work that paragraph is doing.

    Read the argument in layers

    1. Identify the question. What historical or explanatory problem is Strobel trying to answer?
    2. Keep the voices distinct. Separate Strobel’s framing, an interviewee’s argument, cited evidence, and the guide’s clarification.
    3. Track the limits. Ask what a piece of evidence would establish if accepted and what it still would not prove by itself.
    4. Rebuild the cumulative case. Use Review & Work It Out and Can You Say It? to connect the evidence without collapsing different categories into one another.
